We offer a wide range of traditional and modern wood finishes including French Polishing

FRENCH POLISHING

French Polishing is a wood finishing technique used to protect against conditions such as humidity, sunlight and everyday wear and tear such as water marks and brings out the natural beauty in wood. The material used to do this is called shellac. Furniture from the Georgian and Regency era and most certainly Victorian furniture will have been French Polished or or at least sealed with a shellac based varnish. The process consists of applying many thin coats of shellac dissolved in alcohol using a rubbing pad lubricated with Oil to create the desired sheen from Matt through to Satin and Gloss, here at Parkhouse we have highly skilled french polishers with many years of experience in traditional methods who will be able to bring out the best in your furniture.

MODERN SPRAY FINISHING

We have a dedicated spray booth and experienced staff offering a clear (or colour pigmented) spray lacquer service. This finish is most suited to retro, modern and some antique furniture. It is more durable, making it ideal for surfaces which are in constant use like dressing tables or dining tables. The degree of gloss can be altered to suit individual taste, so you can have anything from a wet look, high gloss finish to a more matt or satin look.

We can also carry out spray painting for trade and private clients with a variety of colours and sheen finishes including kitchens, new timber and joinery as well as furniture. Colour matching is offered including the Farrow & Ball paint range.

"These people are highly recommended (and I am a critical reviewer!). Good communication, courtesy and thoughtfulness throughout. The french polish finish is immaculate - thanks for your patience and skill guys; I know it isn't easy and you have done a truly beautiful job on repairing and polishing my tilt-top table. I don't have many antique pieces but may start collecting, now that I know there are sensitive and trustworthy restorers I can rely on to bring a piece back to functional and aesthetic life" Sarah S.

"Have recently had a lovely old well worn round solid oak table restored and finished with a hard wearing practical surface to suit our lifestyle. It has turned out beautifully, the grain of the wood and colour are just right and we would have no hesitation in recommending Parkhouse Restorers. They are always very friendly and polite, listen and respond thoughtfully to requests and quote fair & realistic prices. We are so pleased to have discovered them!
Thank you Parkhouse for a superb job and helpful pick up and delivery of our table."
